Sermon Summary:
This week we conclude our Built to Build series in Nehemiah. As God’s people reflected on His faithfulness, they were challenged to move beyond a moment of commitment into a life of surrender. Ultimately, Nehemiah points us to the One who alone can transform hearts and build something that lasts.
- Remember the God Who Has Been Faithful
Nehemiah 9 begins with God’s people looking back over their history and remembering God’s faithfulness. Their story was not defined by their perfection but by God’s unwavering commitment to His promises. Remembering God’s faithfulness gives us confidence to trust Him with our future. - Surrender Must Become More Than a Moment
The people made sincere commitments to God, yet within a short time many of those commitments began to fade. Spiritual growth is not sustained by emotional moments alone. Following Jesus is a daily decision to keep saying “yes” long after the excitement of a moment has passed. - Only Jesus Can Build What Lasts
Nehemiah ends with unfinished tensions because rebuilding walls could not change people’s hearts. The book leaves us longing for Jesus, who gives us a new heart and His Spirit. Jesus is the true builder of His Church and the only One who can produce lasting transformation in us.
Discussion Questions:
- Looking back over your life, where have you seen God’s faithfulness even during difficult or uncertain seasons?
- Why do you think it is often easier to make commitments to God in a significant moment than it is to live them out consistently over time?
- What area of your life needs fresh surrender to Jesus right now, and how can the group pray for you this week?
Prayer:
Spend time praying for one another:
- Thank God for His faithfulness.
- Surrender afresh to Jesus and His purposes.
- Pray for hearts that remain faithful after the moment has passed.
- Pray for Edge Church, its leaders, and the Goodwood campus as the church steps into this new season.
Weekly Application: Remember before you Rush:
This week, set aside 10-15 minutes to intentionally remember God’s faithfulness in your life.
- Write down three specific ways God has been faithful to you over the past year.
- Identify one area where you have been relying on your own strength rather than surrendering to Jesus.
- Each morning, begin your day with this simple prayer: “Jesus, I am Yours. Keep building in me. Keep building through me. My whole life for Your glory.”
Share with a trusted friend, spouse, or Life Group member one area where you are seeking to remain faithful beyond the emotion of a moment and invite them to pray for you during the week.
Closing Declaration
Jesus, I am Yours. Keep building in me. Keep building through me. My whole life for Your glory.
