Sermon Summary:
This week’s movie, The Lost Bus, tells the true story of Kevin McKay, a struggling school bus driver whose life was far from together. Yet when a devastating wildfire struck Paradise, California, he found himself in the exact place where he could make a life-saving difference.
The message reminded us that God often works through the very parts of our story that we would rather hide. Kevin’s disappointments, failures, and unplanned circumstances were not wasted. In fact, God used them to position him to help others. As Romans 8:28 reminds us, God works all things together for good for those who love Him.
The central question of the message was: “Who’s on your bus?” In other words, who has God placed in your life? Who are you influencing, leading, serving, or caring for? Whether it’s family, friends, colleagues, neighbours, or members of your Life Group, God has entrusted people to us.
The message also challenged us not to wait until life is perfect before responding to God’s call. God isn’t looking for perfect people; He’s looking for available people. Just as Isaiah responded, “Here I am. Send me,” we too are invited to make ourselves available to God right where we are.
Discussion Questions:
- Who’s on Your Bus?
The message encouraged us to think about the people God has already placed in our lives. Who are the people that God may be inviting you to influence, encourage, support, or point toward Jesus in this season? - God Uses Ordinary People
Kevin felt unqualified, yet God used him in a significant way. What tends to make people feel disqualified from being used by God, and how does this message challenge that thinking? - Don’t Wait for the Fire
One of the key challenges from the message was not to delay important conversations, forgiveness, or obedience. Is there a conversation, step of obedience, relationship, or decision that you’ve been postponing that God may be prompting you to address?
Prayer Pointers | Pray together for:
- Eyes to see the people God has placed around us.
- Courage to be available when God wants to use us.
- Wisdom in relationships and influence.
- Healing in broken relationships where reconciliation is needed.
- Faith to trust God even when the road ahead is uncertain.
- Those in our lives who do not yet know Jesus.
Weekly Application:
This week, take a few moments to reflect on the question: “Who’s on my bus?”
Make a list of one or two people God has placed in your sphere of influence, and pray for them daily. Then ask God: “How can I intentionally serve, encourage, support, or point this person toward Jesus this week?”
Take one practical step, whether it’s a conversation, an invitation, an act of kindness, or simply being present for someone who needs you.
