High Level Sermon Summary:
This message explored what God wants to do through us as His church, not just in us as individuals.

Using the story of the Transfiguration (Luke 9), we see a powerful movement:

  1. Jesus takes the disciples up the mountain – their eyes are lifted, their perspective shifts and they see His glory.
  2. Jesus leads them down into the valley – where there is pain, need, and brokenness.
  3. Jesus invites them to be part of what He is doing – by bringing people close to Him.

Key truths from the message:

  • God wants to lift our eyes so we can see Jesus, people, and purpose clearly.
  • God wants to fix our focus so our lives are built around Jesus, not just moments or activities.
  • God wants to move our hearts toward people, especially those hurting.
  • God uses our simple, surrendered “yes” to bring people closer to Him – and through that, His glory is revealed.

Immeasurably more does not happen when we stay comfortable on the mountain, but when we follow Jesus into the valley, available and willing.

Key Scriptures:

  • Ephesians 3:20–21 – God’s power at work within us and through the church
  • Luke 9:28–43 – The Transfiguration and the healing in the valley
  • Hebrews 10:25 – The importance of gathering
  • Acts 4:31 – Prayer lifts and empowers the church
  • 1 John 3:18 – Love in action, not words only
  • 1 Peter 4:10 – Each person using their gift to serve
  • Ephesians 4:16 – The body grows as each part does its work

Discussion Questions:

  1. Lifting Our Eyes
Jesus first took the disciples up the mountain to see His glory.
    • What helps lift your eyes to see Jesus clearly?
    • What most often keeps your focus at “ground level”?
  2. Fixing Our Focus on Jesus
Peter wanted to build shelters around a powerful moment instead of listening to Jesus.
    • What are some “good things” that can unintentionally shift our focus away from Jesus?
  3. Mountain to Valley
Jesus led the disciples from glory on the mountain straight into need in the valley.
    • Why do you think God often moves us from moments of encounter toward people and into moments of serving?
  4. Our Yes
The message emphasized that God uses available people, not perfect ones.
    • What might a simple “yes” look like for you in this season?
God does the miracle, but He invites people to help bring others close.

What is one practical way you could move from ‘seeing the need’ to ‘bringing someone closer to Jesus’ this week?

  • Who is one person God may be inviting you to notice or care for more intentionally right now?”

Prayer Pointers:
Pray together around these areas:

  • Vision: Ask God to lift your eyes to see Jesus clearly again.
  • Focus: Pray for lives centred on Christ, not just church activity or emotional moments.
  • Compassion: Ask God to soften your heart toward people and help you notice needs around you.
  • Availability: Pray for courage to say “yes” to where God wants to use you.
  • Church: Pray that your church would reflect the heart of Jesus and bring Him glory through love in action.
