Immeasurably More: Freedom (Week 7)

Preacher: Daniel Erasmus

Worship Song Suggestion:

“Goodness of God” – Bethel Music (Theme: trusting God’s goodness and faithfulness in every season)

Check-In:

  1. What is one decision you’ve had to make recently (big or small)?
  2. Have you ever felt unsure or stressed trying to figure out God’s will? What did that feel like?

Sermon Summary:

This week’s message reminds us that God wants us to experience “immeasurably more freedom” in understanding His will. Often, we feel pressure trying to figure out God’s will, as if it’s one tiny “dot” we could miss. But the truth is: God is not hiding His will. He is revealing His heart.

The key idea:
“If you want to know God’s will, it starts with knowing God’s heart.”

Trusting that He loves you is foundational in trusting His will for your life. The sermon unpacked four layers of God’s will:

  1. God’s Sovereign Will (Trust His Purpose)
    • God’s ultimate plan cannot be stopped.
    • Even our mistakes or hard seasons don’t derail His purpose.
  2. God’s Permissive Will (Trust His Redemption)
    • God gives us freedom to choose.
    • Not everything that happens is good – but God can redeem anything.
  3. God’s Moral / Revealed Will (Obey His Word)
    • God has already made clear how we are to live.
    • Often we want direction for the future while ignoring obedience today.
  4. God’s Personal Will (Walk in His Purpose)
    • God has a unique calling for each of us.
    • He leads, teaches, and guides us step by step.

We often overcomplicate God’s will and underestimate His goodness. God is more concerned with who we are becoming than just what we choose. We don’t need the full picture – just the next faithful step.

Key Takeaways:
God’s will for your life becomes clearer as you:

  • Start with who God is forming you to become
  • Obey what God has already made clear
  • Do the next faithful thing today
  • Do whatever you do for the glory of God
  • Trust God’s goodness while you walk

Freedom comes when we trust that God is good, present, and leading us.

Key Scriptures:

  • Ephesians 3:20–21
  • 2 Corinthians 3:17
  • Isaiah 46:10
  • Proverbs 19:21
  • Genesis 50:20
  • 1 Thessalonians 4:3
  • Ephesians 2:10
  • Psalm 32:8
  • Romans 12:2
  • Micah 6:8
  • Matthew 6:34
  • Colossians 3:17
  • Psalm 23:6

Discussion Questions:

  1. Which of the four aspects of God’s will (sovereign, permissive, moral, personal) stood out to you most, and why?
  2. Have you ever felt like you could “miss” God’s will? How does this message challenge that thinking?
  3. Is there an area in your life where you are asking God for direction but possibly ignoring something He has already made clear?
  4. What might your “next faithful step” look like right now?

Prayer Pointers:

  • Thank God that He is a loving Father who guides and leads, not hides.
  • Ask God to help you trust His heart and His goodness, even when you don’t understand.
  • Pray for courage to obey what He has already shown you.
  • Ask the Holy Spirit to help you discern His voice and take the next step in faith.
  • Pray for freedom from fear, pressure, and overthinking in decision-making.
  • Commit your current decisions and future to God, trusting His purpose.
